About

Globetrotter Diaries explores the culinary cultures around the world by researching and cooking local dishes.  Based in Los Angeles, we are constantly inspired by the diversity of this city and of course, the food.  This blog’s purpose is to celebrate and share all the incredible food traditions of places around the world.

Karen provides you with your weekly dose of recipes, photos and other drivel on all things food related, which is just a thinly veiled disguise for her plot for world domination.

Karen…
is a Cancer (on the Gemini/Cancer cusp), but who believes in that hooey anyway,
loves anything she can eat with her hands (e.g.: ribs), tofu, crispy chicken skin and single malt Scotch,
believes she is truly Mexican and that the best food you’ll ever find is inside people’s homes,
has more spices and types of salt than her pantry can handle,
wants to travel to the Middle East next,
is addicted to coffee (she believes it’s liquid gold), bad reality television and Antiques Roadshow, and
rarely goes to a restaurant where a month-in-advanced reservation is required.  She’s sure the food is good, but for that kind of hype and commitment the food would have to be gilded and better than sex,
in a previous life was a modern-day abolitionist.  Is now spending her days studying law.

Valerie is the mastermind behind the machine that drives this blog and every last pixel and hue of color that bedazzles your eyes. Most days you’ll find her behind her Mac nerding out to the latest web 2.0 trend and listening to Bjork (OMG Crystalline is upon us).

Valerie…
will eat just about anything if it has teriyaki sauce on it (but has found through trial-and-error that it is absolutely disgusting on certain things),
never yells or fights but will rip off your head in a debate about cilantro if you’re a cilantro lover,
can eat sandwiches for breakfast, lunch and dinner,
hopes the afterlife involves floating weightless amongst infinite pieces of burnt cheese and crispy cookies,
does not use a microphone during karaoke but is the loudest singer in the room,
is a fish who would live in the ocean if she could,
recently returned from Cape Town which will now forever be her second home, and
loves travel to be cheap and unplanned and has always had the most fun on trips when lost and wandering aimlessly,
in a previous life was an educator.  Is now spending her days running her own web design company, Goose Dog Designs.

Karen and Valerie met in college and have been best of friends since, traveling and eating their way around the world!  If we travel to a place that you have been to or cook a dish you love, please leave a comment.  We spend all day talking about ourselves on this blog and would love a reprieve and an opportunity to hear your story!
